International Jazzfestival Münster 2020 - Shortcut

The first weekend of January in the even year: 2020. After the 40th anniversary of the festival in 2019, it is the turn of the "Shortcut" edition of the International Jazz Festival - alternating with the three-day edition.

Festival director Fritz Schmücker has expanded two trademarks of the festival by his choice of bands: Europe and Premieres! Musicians from six countries can be heard in the "Großes Haus" of Theater Münster. Two of the three concerts have their first appearances in Germany.

The concert starts with "Koma Saxo", the five-member human dynamo of the Swedish bassist Frans Petter Eldh. Musicians from Sweden, Finland and Germany have found together in the current hot spot of the European jazz scene: in Berlin.

Afterwards, trumpeter Airelle Besson and her congenial partner Lionel Suarez playing the accordion produce more delicate sounds that touch the audience with their tunes as well as their unique art of improvisation. A premiere in Germany.

And finally – likewise the first appearance in this country: "Pipe Dream". The quintet of four Italian musicians together with the legendary American cellist Hank Roberts soon releases the second CD.

The artistic director is Fritz Schmücker, the event is organised by the Kulturamt of the City of Münster. The commitment of the long-standing festival partners (see title page) paved the way for the realisation.

Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR Köln) records the concerts and broadcasts them on WDR 3 on February 22th, 2020 from 20:04 to 22:00 o'clock.
